connected web parts - setting selected item

Asked By: Eliezer    Date: Dec 02    Category: MOSS    Views: 1182

I have a page in MOSS 2007 that is displaying a product list and
product details using connected web parts. The connection works as
expected, so when a user clicks a product in the list, the appropriate
product details is displayed in the adjacent web part.

I would like to be able to pass in a query string parameter to pre-
select a product in the list. So I could have a link on another page
that links to http://server/.../details.aspx?product=123 and it would
open my page with product 123 already selected with it's details

Anyone know if I can set the selected item from a query string

That would depend on how the webpart was written. In general it would
not be written to accept that type of parameter. If the webpart is
built from the SharePoint object model then this may be possible,
assuming that the right interface was used when building the connection.

Both webparts are dataview webparts using a sharepoint list as the
datasource. I used SharePoint Designer to add the dataviews.

Then you should be able to pull a query string parameter in using custom
XML - see
view-webpart/ for an example of accessing a query string as a parameter.
