Connect to Oracle DB Using DBC Meta Man

Asked By: Rikki    Date: Oct 05    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1392

I'm facing problem connecting to Oracle Database using DBC Meta Man tool.

First when I try to connect to oracel I got the following error:

System.Data.OracleClient requires Oracle client software version 8.1.7 or greater.

Then installed Oracle Database 10g Express Client as suggested in this link
(support.lightningtools.com/default.asp), now I'm getting the following error

ora-12154: TNS:listener was not given the SERVICE_NAME in CONNECT_DATA

I did not find any tnsnames.ora file to update the service name details. please let me know how do I connect to oracle DB
either by using DBC Meta Man or Business Data Catalog Defination Editor.

As the above solution did not work for me ..I installed  the whole oracle(server + client) on my MOSS server, as I did not see any option to just install oracle  client part and then changing the oracle/network/admin/tnsnames.ora ..it started working fine.

Thats seems be very odd but I'm not sure where I should get just the oracle client!!
