You should be able to connect  from your client using Sql client tools to the
MSDE 2000 on another machine. You will need an account on the database and the
password for that account.

Did you ever get in? I grabbed an extra machine and loaded v2 with the MSDE
setup and let it go. I was suprised it did not prompt for a admin password or
account. I got on another machine and opened up the MSDE remotely using the SQL
Server tools. I was able to connect  using the same id as the id I installed v2
with. It also happened to be a user acct that was a domain admin. Might try the
same account that you set up SPS v2, if not try the a domain admin account.
