I'm trying to configure a search from SharePoint to search metadata on an
external website, does anyone know how this can be done ?

If it's indexed, it should be searchable. If you're crawling the web
site and the queries don't turn up content items from that web site,
then I suspect that the metadata  is not being indexed.

Thanks for the information, it has enabled me to move onto the next step.

I have now configured the search  to only bring back keyword results from my
external source website  (MCMS website)

It is now indexing the pages and including the metadata  in the index but is
still also indexing the page content, is there any way i can configure  it to
bring b keyword/metadata results only?

For this particular scope we require search indexes to only include the
metadata.

(Am i correct in asumming that what SharePoint calls keywords and metadata
are one and the same?)
