Configuration DB Admin Account vs. Application Pool Identity

Asked By: Trenton Hubbard         Date: Nov 16, 2009      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 260

I use SPS 2003 in a small server farm configuration, with one server running SPS
2003 and one running SQL Server 2000. I am trying to define the "Server Farm
Account Settings". I give three different accounts for the Configuration
Database Administration Account, the Default Content Access Account and the
Portal Site Application Pool Identity. But when I click OK and then come back to
the Server Farm Account Settings page, the Configuration Database Administration
account has been changed into the account I typed for the Portal Site
Application Pool Identity. Is this a normal behaviour? Should the Configuration
Database Administration account and the Portal Site Application Pool Identity be
the same account? A little explanation of these accounts' roles would be
welcome.
