Comparing Versions

Asked By: Dana    Date: Sep 15    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 554

I want to compare a new, pristine install of W2K03 with IIS, fully patched with (or against, depending on how you say it) this same server with Office 12 fully installed. IOW, I want to do a before and after snapshots and then generate a directory structure, file and registry comparison report. Does anyone know of any good software that will do both a solid file comparison and registry comparison with good reporting?

I found Wise Package Studio (or one of the Wise products) was good  for this. It
would take a snapshot before and after you install  something and give pretty
good reports on what changed. It even went down to the registry, showed what was
add/removed/changed but you could use it just for snapshots. There must be other
snapshot/compare software  out there though.

I don't have specific experience with this software, but it appears to do exactly what you were looking for...

maybe they have a trial version for you to experiment with.
