Compare Versions Automatically from Link Reference

What I'm attempting to do is have a link in a SP table or possibly a
workflow email that is not just linked to a document, but linked so
that when clicked it would automatically open it in 'Compare' with the
last version of the document.

I can think of a few ways to do this, but I wasn't sure if there was
an easier way to do it through SharePoint.

The only way I can think of doing this is to right a shell script that
would open the document link from the command line, and possibly
having to include a macro that would open the compare to document..??
Which I'm not even sure at this point is possible.

Has anyone attempted to do something like this, or have any ideas?
