Can I make a column of a custom list non editable?

hope someone help me in finding a solution for problems posted below.
* 1)How to provide color (to text present in body)of a sendmail
activity of a workflow created in Share point designer 2007?*
* 2)Can I make a column of a custom list non editable?*

Can't help  with #1, but the only way I've found to do #2 is to build an
Event Handler that will react to the ItemUpdating event and compares the
current field value to the prior field value. If they don't match you
reset the value to the default.

Regarding issue no. 1 -- "How to provide  color (to text  present in body)
of a sendmail" - Try adding CSS style to the Send Email body. For
example:

<span style="color:#009966; font-weight:bold;">Thank you for submitting
an idea.</span>.
