Clarify SPS and Exchange 2000 on same server

Asked By: Vaasu Dhore         Date: Oct 07, 2009      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 157

I have seen mixed answers to the question of whether SPS and Exchange
2000 can exist on the same server? I've seen it said that this is
absolutely not possible. I've seen it said that this works as long as
it's the Standard version of Exchange 2000.

It is not possible. Sharepoint will not allow itself to be installed.

I have talked to some that have managed to get this to work, but it was
not supported by any means but there really has not been anyone in the
groups to state exactly how they managed it.

it is possible to do it (SPS V 2001; Exchange 2000 Standard), but

1. it is not supported by MS
2. you have to server  products on one machine which have a high usage of
resources. Indexing lots of sources will influence the performance of the
Exchange 2000 server.

I would not use it in a productive environement…

How to manage it:

1. Install W2K + Service Pack
2. Install Exchange 2k + SP1 (SP2 does not work)
3. Install SPS V2001. SPS will use one of the storage groups.
