Clarification Please - Documents in WSS v/s SPS

Asked By: Jameson Baxter         Date: Jun 12, 2005      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 148

I have read every paper I can find on this and I still find this a little ambiguous.

If we use WSS as a workgroup site and dump 2000 documents into a “document” site, will WSS index the content? SPS 2001 was a fairly decent Document Management Server and I presume SPS 2003 is the same?

Or does WSS just index the meta-data?

If you use SQL Server for your wss  site you will have Full-text indexing of the documents  within WSS through SQL Full-Text search. If you then include the wss site  within a Portal site directory you will also index everything through MS Search at the Portal level.
