Changing a User's Display Name in a WSS Site

Asked By: Mindy    Date: Dec 12    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 11085

Seemed like a simple enough thing to do. I wanted to change the display
name of an existing user, but can't find where to do that. I found
where to modify user information, but the display name was not
modifiable. Since it was a test site, I just deleted the user. The user
was also a member of a subsite, so I deleted him from there also. But
when I re-added the user, the display name was from the previous one I
just deleted and it could not be edited. Any help on what appears to be
a simple task that my simple mind can't figure out?

Go to this page:

Select the user, select Edit info.

If you need to delete a user  and they are still present even after
deleting them from the user management screen, go to the above URL and
delete the account from there.

What all this is, what you are editing and what you are deleting out of
is the user profile database.

Go to Site Settings, Go To Site Administration, View Site Collection
User Information and delete the user  from this Site Collection.
