Changing URLs of MOSS 2007 sites

Asked By: Johnpaul    Date: Sep 13    Category: MOSS    Views: 1750

Apologies if this question duplicates something in the archives - I
can't seem to find much of anything that suggests how to properly do
this, though what I've found suggests that it's possible.

We have a user who created a site for creating documents - he now
wants to change the URL of the site (say, /sites/blah to
/sites/blah_old) and use the original URL (/sites/blah) for other
work. Is there a good way to do this, either on the user or admin
side?

There is no way rename a Site Collection. The only method you have is
to back /sites/blah up, delete it, restore it as /sites/blah_old and
create a site /sites/blah. If you ever need to do this with a web you
can use the STSADM operation "renameweb" to do that. You may also be
able to use the Publish Features to rename a web, I can't remember for
sure.
