Changing the url, text in the Alert that is sent

Asked By: Noah    Date: Jul 14    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 2418

I have sps 2003 sp1 installed.
The link that goes in the alert on wss sites and portal is:
http://machinename:xxxx/sites/abc or http://machinename:xxxx

Which is fine.. But now we also have a valid url for the above: eg.
http://mydomain.com/sites/abc" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://mydomain.com/sites/abc or http://mydoman.com <http://mydoman.com/>

Now ill like to replace the original url (which is the url used when
accessing it on LAN. the port one) with the http://mydomain.com/sites/abc" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://mydomain.com/sites/abc

I did come across an alternate address setting in the SharePoint central
admin. If I change that, will it have the desired affect or is there any xml
file that I can tweak.

Will gr8ly appreciate any help.

The alternate URL is a good place to start, but depending on the types of alerts
you are talking about you may need to delete and recreate the alert.
User-created alerts tend to store the URL the user was using at the time of
alert creation.
