Changing the url in an alert

Asked By: Dale    Date: Jan 31    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 3271

My current SharePoint environment uses a particular url based on the server that
is resides on, the problem is that certain users access the site via an IP
address as its the only way into it.

The problem is that when they recieve an alert all of the links in it reference
the sites server name so when they click on them they get access denied, they
have been replacing the url with the ip address but this is getting annoying for
them to do, is there a way for me to change the content of the alert for this
site within the cluster?

I know of two solutions, neither are great. One, you can have the
users recreate the alerts. The alerts should use the URL that was used
to access  SharePoint when the URL was created. If a user browses to" target="_blank" rel="nofollow"> and creates an alert, SharePoint should use as the URL in the alerts. If you aren't seeing that
behavior, let me know.

Second, there's an STSADM extension to change alert  URLs in the
SharePoint Administration Toolkit,
FA3-9F2E-2D47618505F2&displaylang=en . Unfortunately it does ALL
alerts. I don't know of any way to tell it to do some.

I neither of those are very helpful, but they might lead you to
something that is.
