Changing MOSS FQDN *After* Installation

Asked By: Kavisha Jain         Date: Apr 20, 2009      Category: MOSS      Views: 373

Can someone give me the proper procedure to rename a MOSS server's FQDN
after the server has been installed?

The gist is this:

1) The machine name would change.

2) The url to the MOSS server would change.

Is there a best practices way of do this?

If you just need the URL to change  all you need to do is create the correct DNS
records and then create an Alternate Access Mapping in SharePoint Central Admin.
If you must rename  the machine  itself that gets a lot more tricky, especially if
other services like SQL are running on it.
