Changing 'home' page for external user

Asked By: Eleanor Valentine         Date: Aug 21, 2009      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 196

We are testing out whether Sharepoint might be suitable to allow external users
access to key docs within the organisation.

Does anyone know whether it's possible to set the default 'home' page for an
external user to go to a given folder ?

We want people to access https://docs.mydomain.com/ and logon and see the docs
they are allowed to see (which will all be in a pre-named folder). Currently,
they get external access but they have to go to
https://docs.mydomain.com/<username>/<folder>, which isn't as fluid really.

Not sure what you mean by a "folder", since SharePoint doesn't really work
that way. Can't you just store all the docs  in a single library, and place
a list view web part on the home  page? That will show the user  only the
docs to which he/she has access.

we thought about that but they need access  to a current sharepoint  site which is
customized for the greater number of internal users and the nav links etc all
indicate towards data and clients that the external  users won't be allowed  to be
aware of.
