Changing the default column in a custom list

Asked By: Janet Fields         Date: Oct 29, 2009      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 320

Is there a way to change the default column in a custom list to a
different field type. Currently it is a single line text field. I
would like to be able to change this to a drop down field. Or, I
would like to remove it completely (which can be done in front
page), but doing this removes the link in the list to the underlying
form.

You can do this by creating a new column  to replace it, using frontpage  to
convert the list  to a data view web part, then editing using frontpage to add
the hyperlink to the new column and removing the old default.
