Change the MOSS website password

Asked By: Brandon    Date: Mar 31    Category: MOSS    Views: 898

I want to change my portal admin password of my moss production site,
which is using various sharepoint services. My User name is
domain/administrator. Currently I am using very poor password. I want
to use strong password as per our ADS policy i.e. password should be
12 character long with 1 numeric character and 1 special character.

What is the best way to change password and what precaution we should
take before change the password?

We are having 4 servers as mentioned below

1. Front end server 1
2. Front end server 2 - for load balancing
3. Search Server
4. Database Server

Where are you using this account? If, as recommended, you are not using
this as a service account (or for any Search/MySite/SSP/Crawl functions,
etc) then there should be no problem changing the password  in Active
Directory.

Can u tell me are u linked with the ACTIVE Directory(Network),
if not you wanted your own member allocation and administrator. you can go
for FBA providing your own rules and methods for login users & admin.

I have just recently gone through the same time at work. I followed these
directions
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/934838
As a best practices approach, always plan ahead for install sharepoint  or
any other complex product. This obviously includes securing sharepoint using
domain accounts with a least privledges approach using these guides:
technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc263445.aspx
go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=92883&clcid=0x409
technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc263445.aspx#Section7

Unfortunately I ran into some significant issues with changing the ssp
account pools and ended up deleted the ssp and creating a new one with a
strong password. This was with kerberos and NTLM for authentication.

For sql server  service accounts, it's a bit more difficult but here's the
necessary permissions needed
