Change the "Created By" to a different user?

Asked By: Demarco    Date: May 05    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 7474

1) Is it possible to change the "Created By" value on a document to a
different user? (Through the content database or other means?)

For example, I would like to change the "Created By" on TestDoc.doc
(stored in the document library TestDocumentLibrary) from DO\User1 to

2) If not, is it possible to hide the "Created at" from showing up at
the bottom of the page when a user right clicks on a document in a
document library and selects "edit properties".

(I realize that you can specify which columns to show in the document
library view, but that doesn't prevent "Created at xx/xx/xxxx 00:00
by NAME" from showing up at the bottom of the page when you edit the
document's properties)

3) Thirdly, what happens if the AD account (that created the
document) is removed?

1: Yes it is. The field you need to change  is called "Author". Make
sure to have allowunsafeupdate set to true, and use impersonation.

2: See 1

3: No idea.

Could you please provide more information?

There is no author in the Docs or DocsVersions tables.
The lists table has a "tp_Author" field.

You can't change  the Author field once it's been set. Programatically it's a
read-only field. Yes, you could change it in the database, but don't get me
started on that.

Let me look for the code I wrote for changing the author of a list
item. It should be easy to change  it to work for a document  library.

You can only change  the author
field when you are creating a new field. I thought we were changing it
after the field was created.
