Can a Central Administration Port Number be changed?

A backup program needed to run on our MOSS server needs the same port
number currently assigned to our Central Administration web
applicaton. I experimented changing the port number through the IIS
manager in a test environment. That did not work, I put it back.

Can this be done through a stsadm command? Should it NEVER be
changed?

Easiest way is to run  config wizard to remove central  admin from that server
then run it again to install to the port  of your choice.

I'll try that stsadm  command out first.
