Can't find WSS 3.0 in Add / Remove Programs in Windows Server 2003

Asked By: Tameka Clarke         Date: Mar 12, 2010      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 586

I have a question. I installed Windows Server 2003 Enterprise
Edition on a Microsoft Virtual PC and then I installed IIS in it. But I
couldn't find any versions of .Net framework (2.0, 3.0 or anything) nor
could I find WSS 3.0 in Add / Remove Programs. I am not able to proceed with
the installation. Please help ASAP. I also installed the SP2 of Windows
Server 2003, but still no effect. I had to manually install .Net framework
2.0 and its SP, .Net framework 3.0. How to proceed? Am I missing something?

.NET framework is added by turning on the Application server  Role by using
the Manage your server applications in administrative tools. WSS was
included for a while on the disk of Server 2003, but for many installation
medias it had to be downloaded. You can get the WSS 3.0 install from here:

So, should I install WSS 3.0 only after installing SQL
Server 2005 with Service Packs in the machine? Also, are there any Service
Packs to be installed for WSS 3.0? I also need to install MOSS Enterprise
Edition in the machine. If I install MOSS, will it automatically install WSS
3.0 on the machine or should I install MOSS after installing WSS 3.0? Please
reply.

You only need SQL if you don’t want a standalone install.

WSS and MOSS require Server 2003 SP1.

If you are going to install MOSS there is no need to install WSS first.
MOSS includes the WSS installation bits.
