Can't edit/delete a personal view in Portal

Asked By: Dario    Date: Jan 08    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 4419

I have a personal view of the Sites Directory on a portal's Sites
area. Another user added a new field to the list, which I then
added to my view. Then the user deleted the field, and now my
personal view is throwing an error (which makes sense) but I can't
seem to get to the view to edit it to remove the field or delete the
personal view.

When I go to the personal view I get this error:
No such field name No field was found with that name. Check the
name, and try again.

When I select "Edit View" or when I select "Customize List" and the
personal view name I get this error:
(In the top nav bar):
The area does not exist.

(In the content pane):
Value does not fall within the expected range.

I can create a new personal view with the same name, it doesn't
override the original one and will display the list of sites, but if
you select Edit View it will display the same errors.

I am an admin on both the portal and the server, I know permissions
aren't an issue. Any ideas??

If it wasn't a Personal listview I would suggest deleting
the broken Personal listview using FrontPage. But I think that Personal
listviews are only stored in the database.

First try adding the missing column back to the Sites list  long enough
to fix your Personal listview and then remove  the column again. That
should work.

If not, I think that your next best bet will be to locate the row in the
Docs table of the content  database and delete  it manually. Obviously,
this would be a last-choice option.
