Cant See CheckIn,Checkout, Approve etc for my sharepoint site

I have installed a fresh Sharepoint 2007 install using a domain administrator.
Everything seems to be working but i cant seem to do a check in, checkout and
publish of any sites.

Is there some setting i have missed?

Did you turn on document must be checked out before editing?
