Can't access Document Library on Windows 2000/2003 server via UNC

Asked By: Mercedes Nash         Date: Jan 23, 2010      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 477

When I am on my Windows XP box I can access our SharePoint Document Library via the UNC path just fine. \\server\DocLib, and it comes right up. However on my 2000 and 2003 Servers if I type in that path at the run command it says it can't find it. I can still access the web version just fine though, but I need access to access it this way. On all three boxes I am logged in using the same account, and on all three I have local admin privelages, though i was able to access it just fine without these on my local box before all this.

Accessing document  libraries via a UNC path  in Windows Explorer is handled by the WebClient service which is disabled by default on Windows 2000 and Windows 2003 machines.

Enable this service from the Services MMC snap-in and start it. You should be able to use the UNC path to access  your documnet libraries.
