Calendar Workflow

Asked By: Pallavi    Date: Feb 23    Category: MOSS    Views: 1388

I need to be able to create a workflow that will start when a user puts an
item into the calendar. Then sends it to the approver, which could be a
choice of 3 people depending on who creator reports to. Not list it on the
calendar until it's approved.

I cannot seem to get this to work. Does anyone know where I could find the
step by step process to set this up?

What part of this can't you get to work? Please let us know what you have
tried and what's going wrong.

If you require approval, then the item shouldn't show on the calendar until
it's approved. However, if you're a qualified approver -- which is most
likely true if you're the one developing the workflow -- then you *will* see
it regardless of its approval status.

If you put the calendar into list view you should see things sorted by Pending,
Approved, and Rejected.

Settings-->List Settings... Versioning Settings-->Allow content approval...

Thanks for the part of "however, if you're a qualified approver -- which is most
likely true if you're the one developing the workflow then you *will* see it
regardless of its approval status"
This cleared up one issue for me.
Here is what is not working
a. I am using the approval workflow..... assigned to one person.
b. I initiate the appointment request and it goes that person in "2" emails. Why
would this happen.? One is "approval has started" the other is "Task Assigned
to". Will be confusing to users.
c. If I approve the request, it states "Approval Status" = "Yes"
d. However, in workflows "Status" is always "Pending"
e. If I turn off "Approval needed" in Versioning Settings", I lose The Approval
Status type. Which when "On" always stay at "Pending"
I just can't get consistency anywhere
In WSS 3.0 we used the Absence Request and Vacation Schedule Management
Template. Will that ever return?

To turn off one of the emails go to the list settings and find the setting that
notifies the assigned person of a task.

Does the calendar allow an approval process?

There are often multiple ways to achieve the same end using SharePoint. May be
worth evaluating the following approach...
To keep the overall approach clear - I do not explain the steps in great detail.
