More on calculated columns

Anyone know how to create a sentence that inserts dates from two other
columns? I tried this, but I am getting the dates in the serial number
format. I can't figure out how to get it to display the dates in an
actual date format.

4 columns:

"event date" (date and time: date only)
"details due:"(calculated column: [event date]-21)
"seed questions due:"(calculated column: [event date]-7)
"Message to coordinator" (calculated column:
="General Event Details are due on or before "&[Details Due:]&" and
Seed Questions are due on or before "&[Seed Questions Due:]&"."

My problem occurs w/ the last column. The sentence displays, but the
two dates appear as serial numbers.
