Calculated Column issue

Asked By: Rachel    Date: Jan 17    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1347

I set up a simple calculated column that is =Modified-Created and it
goves me a number of days.

Every once in a while the column goes screwy and subtracts something
like 40000 from all the numbers... Needless to say I am sure this is
some artifact of a date calculation gone wrong like maybe years or
something.

I have tried the formula as =DATEDIF(Modified,Created,"d") and the same
thing happens.

As soon as I go into the column as if to edit, and then exit, the
calculation fixes itself.

Anyone else seen this behavior?

We have seen it but we haven't fixed it. Same issue/same circumstances.

Has the item where you are getting the screwy numbers ever been modified?
I'm thinking that perhaps the Modified value is null so you get a weird
result. When you go in to fix it, you modify the column  and it starts
working. Just a guess.

Well, no, its just the generic Created and Modified columns that are
there in any library. I have noticed the same behavior on columns that I
have created as well.

In fact null values return a different value. I have examples of that.
Something like -962,790....

now that I think about it, that is an hourly calculation, so you
might be on to something with it reading the values as null...

Now that said, I am not sure there is much I can do about it. There IS a
created date and there IS a modified date, so if it is reporting random
values as null.....

Have to think about this one..
