CAL question

Asked By: Rusty    Date: Oct 03    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 816

I just wanted to confirm something regarding CAL's for SharePoint.
We have 2 SharePoint servers, do I need to have a CAL for each one? Or will
one CAL work for both?

You should probably consult with your Microsoft Reseller or Sales Manager,
as the agreements seem to be in flux, based on use of SPS (e.g. internal vs.
external), the number of users, the type of License Agreement you have with
MS.

Unless the box is a development server from your MSDN subscriptions, I think
you have to pay for CALS on both servers.

Actullay the CAL covers the client, you will need a server licenses for each
servers where SPS is installed a CAL for each client connecting to SPS.

Yes, there should be no CALs needed for a server, just the software cost for
each server itself. The CALs are for each client... and they cover as many back
end servers  as you have.
