Breadcrumb for Search Central Page

Asked By: Miriam Leonard         Date: Sep 20, 2009      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 291

I am unable to configure the Breadcrumb on the Search Central Page to
different Site. Here is the example -

I have couple of site collections with sub-sites. If any user do a
search, It will take them to central search page and will display the
search results...But they can't go back to their site.

There's no way to change the breadcrumbs on the Search page. Your
option is to create a Search Center in each Site Collection. Then your
breadcrumbs will work. The downside side is that if you do any
customization on the Search Centers then you'll have to do it on each
one.

Is there a way to do customization?? Instead of
having a breadcrumb, can we place a customized code breadcrumb/icon to
take them back  to their site?

The URL of the referring site  is included in the request that sends you to the
Search Center. We had someone looking at a way to either add a javascript Back
button or a Web Part that would use that to redirect back  to the original
requesting page. But I don't know if anyone ever finished working on it. I'll
check and reply when I find out something.
