I read it and it is very well done. Out of the products
in your review I only have experience with DocAve and I just wanted to point out
that while it is true that DocAve only works for backing up SharePoint related
items, IMO I don’t think its fair to list as one of the CONS that a product for
SharePoint does not back up the entire system outside of SharePoint. In the real
world any Enterprise with an IT Dept will have a separate system (In my case
TSM) to perform backups of all the servers, system states etc... Just a
thought…..Aside from that the article was excellent…. Good Job.
I agree with the theme of the article that a good SP backup solution is the
combination of a few different things. What I do is use the built in SP Backup
every night as a last line of defense for a complete disaster. I also run
hourly SQL Backtrack Backups of all DBs and Logs to a Tivoli Storage Manager
node. The servers in my farms are backed up every 8 hours including all system
and metabase data. I then run nightly DOCAVE backups on all items for granular
recovery of items….So far so good, knock on wood…..
