Binding data after page loads

Asked By: Dennis    Date: Oct 14    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1070

I've built a web part that connects to an AS400 database and gets a certain
amount of data. A custom summary web part has been added to the landing page
of the site. The initial connection for a user is slow as the OLEDB/ODBC is
connected and gets the data; up to 12 seconds. Once the connection is cached
the rendering is quick.

I'd like to know if there is a way to render the page first and then bind
the data within the custom web part after. Much like the way the BDC
connector works. You can see the animated line go back and forth as it gets

The web part is a custom design that uses the Telerik grid control.

I haven't tried this particular method, but you should be able to use AJAX to
make the binding and display of the grid  a partial page  refresh. That way the
page will load without waiting for the grid to finish binding.
