being prompted for FrontPage Install on a constant basis...

Asked By: Ervin    Date: Dec 06    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 619

Whenever our users log onto the portal, they are prompted to install
FrontPage 2000, that's right, 2000, not 2'03....

The user presses cancel, and the prompt happens 2x more...
The users do not have any version of Frontpage on their machines, nor
should they....

Any suggestions as to why that is happening?

Without knowing more information, it sounds more like an IE/Windows
issue rather than a SharePoint issue. It could possibly be a plug-in
that might be loaded in IE that is causing the problem. I have noted
that Office setup will be called when a font that is used on a website
needs to be installed or an Office specific feature (like the Office web
controls, although, I don't know if the Office web controls were around
for Office2000).

Some questions that need to be asked are:

1. What version of Office are your users  currently running?
2. Is this happening consistently for all users or just a select few?
3. If running XP SP2, you may want to try to disable all the browser
plug-ins and helpers to see if that rectifies the problem.
4. If you are using custom web parts in your SharePoint portal, you may
want to look to see if those web parts are loading ActiveX controls
(shudder) or some version of the Office Web Controls.
