BDC Definition Editor in SharePoint 2007 SDK installation Questions

Asked By: Aida Williams         Date: Feb 06, 2009      Category: MOSS      Views: 681

Can someone please confirm, and if possible say why:

1) BDC Definition Editor is only installable on WinXP and W2K3 server?
2) If SQL server is on the machine the Editor installer still wants to put down SQL Express?
3) Can the editor connect to and build an application file for SQL2008 databases?

If all the above is true, how do i create a BDC file if running Win7 on my devbox and the data databases, and the SharePoint databases, are all in SQL2008 on Win2K8 machines?

the BDC Definition Editor installs SQL Express on the machine because it uses this to execute and test the BDC methods against before importing them into SharePoint. I'm not sure about the other points though.

[plug]Feel free to try BDC Meta Man . With the free Developer license you'll be able to install it on Win7 and connect to remove SQL 2008 databases on Win2k8 [/plug]
