Backup Of SharePoint

Asked By: Johnathan Hicks         Date: Mar 08, 2004      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 194

Our team is confused as we are all new to sharepoint.

The issue is this

We have a portal site HPC 1 and its databse is in the sql server.

It is connected to a databse called sps01_ config_db

It has got three other datbases HPC1_PROF,HPC_1 SERV AND HPC_1SITE .

Now we want to know is it enough to take a backup through share point using STSASDM.

Or should we also take back up of the sql server databses.

What happens if my sql server crashes if i restore the sharepoint back up will it also restore my sql database connected to the site.

Also we want to automate share point back up we would like to know how to go abt this and what is the best practise.

Checkout the MSI 2.0 @ www.microsoft.com/.../details.aspx

These documentation contain a fair bit of information about backup/restore strategies.

Also, most people I've talked are only using spsbackup to backup  MS Search index catalogs - in favour of doing their own SQL backups of WSS and SPS databases.
