i am looking for a backup script which takes a full backup with stsadm and let
you specify how many previous backups will be kept.
i found a lot of stuff when i typed "sharepoint backup script " in google but
none of them offers this functionality. i would appreciate any help.

Do you want to use STSADM to make Site Collection backups  or Farm
backups? I ask because the techniques are different for each one.

I am familiar with the site collection backups. I would be interested
also in the farm level backups.

look you must make .bat file and make schedule task on windows that run this bat
file .

this is the only way you can make schedule backup  , do you need to know what is
the stsadm  and how to make schedule task on windows ? or you know it
