Backup and Restore / move SPS

Asked By: Salvatore    Date: Nov 10    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 680

I'm trying to move Sharepoint portal 2003 from a server to another
one including the sharepoint services sites on the server.
It gives me an error when using microsoft tool for backup, so I did a
backup manually using the following:
1. backup _Config_db database
2. backup the main portal databases <PortalSite>_prof,
<PortalSite>_serv, <PortalSite>_site
3. I coppied also the 60 directory which contains the templates and
other pages added to the portal.

on the other server Sharepoint portal server were installed and there
was around 4 portals working there. so what I did is the following:
1. restored the backedup databases on the other server.
2. restored the 60 directory

now it gives me a 400 bad request when I am trying to access the main
portal but the other 3 portals are working fine. How to solve this
error? "400 bad request" ??

You should never restore  a configuration database from one server to an
other one.

The Sharepoint utility can be used to backup  a portal  from one server
and restore it to the new one and fix all the links.

Alternatively, you can create a new portal and tell it to restore its
content from existing database using the Sharepoint Administration tool.

In your case, you will need to re-create or restore a Config database on
your other Sharepoint server and reconnect the portals to it
