BackUp Issues

Asked By: Raven    Date: Dec 09    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 808

We are having issues doing a backup from the Central Admin Pages. We
get all the way to file 14 and then we get the following error:

Object WSS_Content_1a6a20b14f774222b203ee1b4373d9dd failed in event
OnBackup. For more information, see the error log located in the backup
directory. SqlException: Cannot open backup device
'd:\spbackup\spbr0005\00000014.bak'. Operating system error
3(The system cannot find the path specified.). BACKUP DATABASE is
terminating abnormally.

We have tried giving everyone full control so that we don't have any
permissions issues, but it still isn't working.

1. make sure you have configured both NTFS and Share permissions 2. if that
doesn't work, try renaming the .xml file  in the root of the backup  directory 3.
if not, make sure you can browse the server name by \\servername\sharename from
the GUI on the Central Admin server 4. If you are not using AD auth, the
SQL_SERVER$ account must have write to the share as well.

Do you have a separate database  machine? Are you setting these
permissions on the database? Does the folder spbr0005 exist? I believe
permissions should be set for the service account that moss was
installed as, and that owns the CA database. Is this a domain account?

I had the same problem, I wish I could recall what it was. It was
interesting that some of the files were written owned by the Moss
service account and some were written as the SQL Service account.

We had granted the SQL machine read accounts,
but had not shared the folder. We finally got it working.

It appears the the 1st 13 files are written by MOSS and 14 is the
written by SQL. We never had any problems until we got to 14.
