How to back up the SQL databases from a SP2003 using MS SQL Server

Can anybody point me to clear instructions for backing up the SQL
databases from a SP2003 that appears to be using MS SQL Server Desktop
Engine?

I've backed up using SP Data Backup & Restore, but I'd also like to do
a second backup of the SQL database itself.
