Autopopulating Value in Custom list

Asked By: Korey    Date: Jan 21    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1369

I have 2 specific doubts. Appreciate the groups help.

*Doubt 1:*

We are creating a custom list for Help Desk. The custom list will capture
the required fields.
In the custom list we have created, we have fields such as called "Mobile
Number", "Department", "Project", "Manager" in the custom list. We have
these values defined in Active directory.

Now going forward, Our Business request is to auto-populate these values in
the custom list fields. Is this possible/ can it be achieved by fetching
these values from the Active Directory and display as auto-populated values
in the custom list fields?

If there are any active directory scripting involved. I have to be frank, I
have never done active directory scripting in my life. If some one can
provide a sample code. it would be great.

Can some one explain/ help me in doing this. Probably a step by step
approach. I highly appreciate your help in advance.

*Doubt 2:*
Again its with respect to the custom list. I have custom fields which are
Text fields. By Default the length of the custom field is to big.
I want to restrict the size of the text box. Any inputs regarding this?

You will want to look into a custom  field type. There are classes built
into .NET to query Active Directory.

The out of the box  Text field  has a size  constraint.
