Autonumber field in a list

Asked By: Aurelio    Date: Jul 24    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 8059

I create a custom list
- Add a new column name it autoid
- In the "type of information" selection, select Calculated
- In Formula field I type in =ID+15000 (as I want the auto number to
start from 15001)
- Click OK
- Go back to list
- click New Item
- put in a data
- click on save and close
- a new row appears
with column autoid showing 15000 (it should have shown 15001)
- again click on new item
- put in data
- click on save and close
a new row appears
with column autoid showing 15000 (it should have shown 15002)
- Click on Modify column and settings
- in columns section click on autoid column to edit it
- do nothing in terms of making changes to what is already in there
- click on ok
- Go back to the list

now the column autoid shows numbers 15001 and 15002

if I add new rows in the list autoid column will again show 15000
until I go and do the edit process of the autoid column

Any idea on how the autoid column can be refreshed without going
through the process of click on edit column

Is there any other way to generate an auto number where the starting
number is not 1 (in which case the column "id" can be used)

I have had a requirement where the users were asking for a start
number from 201. I added 200 dummy rows and deleted them and then
used the id column for the auto number

For users asking for a starting number like 15000 adding and deleting
15000 rows wont be a workable solution.
