How to automatically read other attribute from file - new column name

Asked By: Mercedes    Date: Dec 28    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1475

- Report in xls file. Property of file: name, title, author, create date.
- Import file to doc library.
After import file has attribute : name, modification date, sender.

My question is:
1. How can I get info from xls file about period time in report?
In field a3 is set month : april.
It's possible to read this from file and make column name called april ?

2.If not I can write VBA code who's make new file attribute . But how
import them to doc library ?

To promote information in a file  or a custom property  in a file to
Sharepoint metadata requires writing an event hander in C# or Vb.net.
There is no easy way to promote that information to a Sharepoint column
field. You can use a custom Document information Panel to collect
custom properties about a file. There are ways to use these properties
in both the SharePoint library  and the document. But this requires
creating the document (spreadsheet) using the template in the sharepoint
library. Take a look at the following blog.

If you can use a VBA script to write  the data to a custom document
property on the Word/Excel file, then just create  a field  of the same
name and type in your doc  library and move the docs in. This document
describes that approach

The link talks about Sharepoint 2003, but I just tested this on my WSS
v3 site, and it works the same.
