automatic login

Date: Oct 13    Category: MOSS    Views: 660

I want to create a shortcut or link or something that will allow
the user to automatically paste in a username and password. Is there a usual
way to do this? Can I do it from a commandline?

In the web browser? There are some probably some security concerns there.

The best way to have someone auto-login is to add your SharePoint Site URL
as a trusted site in the browser and then set to auto-login using current or
domain credentials:

Just be aware that only works reliably if your computer is a member of the
domain. If you a logging in from an off-site machine then it will pass the
wrong domain and you won't be able to login. So its really only appropriate
in an INTRANET environment.

There are many free products out there that allow you to set up global
hot-keys. You could have something set up as CTRL-ALT-U for user ID and
CTRL-ALT-P for password, for example.

Yes, well I have been working on something just like that. So far I have come
up with a program that allows for multiple accounts and you can switch between
them. It will detect the login window okay, but I am having a hard time getting
at the two edit-boxes since they are javascript-generated. Problem is that
sometimes the browser will save the username, so the default box is set to the
password box, and I can't see any way of knowing whether there is text in the
edit-boxes. Hmmm... I'll have to think about this for awhile.

The reason I posted is to see if there was another way someone knew about, such
as adding the username and password within the url by way of an internet
shortcut or something.

Okay, well, if I figure this program out, I'll tell y'all so you can try it.
