Automatic Document Copy - Sharepoint Document Library 1 to Sharepoint Document Library 2

Asked By: Roxanne    Date: Nov 16    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 17916

I have two Sharepoint document libraries: library1 and library2

library1 is accessed by 4 people, who have permissions to update documents stored there.

What I want to do is:

Whenever a document in library1 is updated, I want to automatically copy that document to library2.

The general public will then be able to view the document in library2 as read-only.

Any thoughts?

You can set up a custom event handler for document  library1 and using the ItemUpdated event copy  the document to the other document library  using the SPListItem.CopyTo method:

Handlers:

blogs.msdn.com/.../...ver-moss-event-handlers.aspx

SPListItem.CopyTo method:

msdn2.microsoft.com/.../....splistitem.copyto.aspx

In addition to smc750's comment, I'll suggest that SharePoint Designer workflow may also get the job done for you and is less code-intensive.
