Automated Document Repository?

Another question for the designers of the SharePoint world:

I'm interested in making a document library for out organization. What
would be the best way to create a central repository with either links
to other content sources, or to it from individual sites?

Thoughts? (Criticisms??)

If you have MOSS, take a look at the Records Center. This is designed
to be a centralized repository  of information where anything put in is
automatically organized based on its content  Type. You can also setup
automatic disposition of the content after a certain period of time.
