is there a way to change the default authentication method of SPS 2003 from
"integrated windows authentication" dialog/popup box into simple log-in page
only?

You should be able to change  the Integrated to basic (don't forget to
use SSL) but you can not change it to a forms-based log in. Curious as
to why you would want to do this?

b'coz we want to make it "customized" & user-friendly like my yahoo sign-in page
or a much likely near setup of UCLA's myUCLA authentication  method for example
(https://i4w.ais.ucla.edu/ils/login.aspx?izAppID=edu.ucla.my).

what we have something in mind is to create the authentication page or a log-in
page as to authenticate the user globally. no more extra login with other third
party applications that will be integrated to the portal (SPS 2003). yes of
course we want to make login transmission encrypted with SSL.

we can't imagine how could this be made using SPS 2003.

I looked at this for someone else some time ago. I finally came back
with there was not a way to do this. Since then I have heard from a MS
resource that there was no real way to do this as well Portal Server was
not set up to do this.

Sorry, would love to find a way as I know there are others that are
curious about this.

i might be considering the windows authentication  method as the
sharepoint was typically setup to this authentication scheme.
