Authentication to extranet

Asked By: Travon    Date: Jun 19    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 798

We have a dedicated Hosting WebServer, which is hosting other dotnet
applications, and we have installed SharePoint Portal on the server

Now, we wanted to create a SharePoint Site for Document sharing
http://<<spsServer>>:8090/sites/OurDocuments. To accomplish this, I
have a few questions:

1. How to create a Authentication, only for this site, as it will be
exposed to the extranet.
2. As this is a dedicated hosted web server, I donot have any Domain
Controller installed. We need to provide a simple login/password page
and user information will be stored in the database.

Any help or reference is really appreciated.

SharePoint v2 only natively supports Active Directory (or a local SAM).
There is an article on Content page that describes
how to overcome this limitation using a few dedicated  accounts,
forms-based authentication, and an HTTP module. Let me know if that
doesn't address your question.
