Authentication

  Asked By: Jackson    Date: Apr 09    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 839

we are running the iis in connection with the sharepoint portal
server. One of the tasks of the iis is the user authentication. The
server is a standalone server, the user accesses via the internet.

Actually we have a problem with the authentication:
the selected authentication method is "basic authentication";
integrated windows authentication and anonymous access are disabled.

So we expect the user to identify himself via a logon dialog (name
and password). This worked well for 1 1/2 years. Now we have the
problem, that - suddenly - the iis does not ask for the users logon
data - every user can access the sites.

After resetting the iis everything works well again - but only for a
few minuts or maybe a couple of days. Then the authentication is
ignored again and we have to restart the iis again.

Does anybody know this problem and/or could tell me a possible
solution ?

I don't know if this is related but in the browser is ur site classified as Intranet site or Trusted site?
Have the browser setting's been changed to log-on automatically.
In our organization the browser dept will remotely update this setting for all the user  machines.
