authenticating external users

Asked By: Veer    Date: Dec 18    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1327

I have one query regarding the extranet access to SharePoint.

I've seen the section on the administrators guide about setting up
extranet access using a separate virtual server pointing to the same
content and what I am still curious about is user management for
external users.

For instance when I make my WSS site available on the net, I would like
to provide contributor rights to abc@..., and reader rights
to abc@... .

How can I provide this kind of user authentication for my externally
published site?

Sharepoint used AD/NT Authentication, this means users  need to be
created either in AD, NT user  accounts list of on the locally on the
server running sharepoint.

Your scenario is possible but you will need to create 2 users for abc
