Audience Targeting for web parts-MOSS 2007

I am trying to target a web part to a specific audience and I am having
some difficulty.
I am able to create a global audience in the SSP and target the web
part based on that.
I am also able to target a web part based on a SharePoint group.
However..
I am unable to target a web part based on distribution or security
group.
When I search for a domain group, it never comes up when targeting the
web part.
Is there anything special I need to do?
I have added a domain group--domain\group_name to the portal.
I can log in to the portal as a member of that group.
But when I want to target a web part to that group, Sharepoint doesn't
find that group when I search for it in the "audiences" part of the web
part maintenance menu.
Any ideas?

Just do the complete profile import once manually for current domain from SSP.

tried it..didn't work...
how can I add domain groups as a property in user profiles?

I had similar situation with SharePoint Groups that contain AD groups to make
them work with Audience Targeting. If you add the user directly to the
SharePoint groups then Audience Targeting works but not if the user belongs to a
AD security group that is added to the SharePoint Group. Also I couldnt find a
way to get Security groups show up in Audience Targeting.

We ended with a different solution where we assigned permissions to the Page
that was hosting our custom controls.

I read on some blogs that it is a known issue by design with SharePoint groups
containing AD groups for Target Audience.
