Audience targeting in Announcements list

Asked By: Hunter    Date: Jul 18    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 7154

I am trying to implement Audience targeting in an announcements list. I have
read the article at
www.sharepointbeagle.com/.../ContentQueryWebPartandA\
udienceTargeting.aspx . This does what I want, but it takes away other things I
would like to keep. One is expiring messages, and the other is the "preview" of
the announcement, similar to the way RSS readers will display the first sentence
or two of an article. When using the CQWP, both of the last two items don't
work anymore. Unfortunately this is not a page that I can edit in SPD either,
as this is the Start page of a publishing site. (It's not a default.aspx, but
rather /Pages/category.aspx.) How do I edit the CQWP to do the same things as
the announcements list, or how do I get the Annoucements webpart targeting to
work. The problem that I am having, other than our users being rather
pedestrian, (they are new to SharePoint and most are scared of it) is that we
want
certain announcements to be targeted only to internal users, and not to users
who use Forms Based Authentication. I have tried several AD groups as
audiences, and tested with an FBA account, and everytime it seems that Audiences
don't work in Announcements lists. This is the only change I would like to
make, and would like to keep the rest of the Look and Feel of the Announcements
the same.
